2013 British Shogi Championships - reminder

The 2013 British Open Shogi Championships will be held in Hampstead, London over the weekend of Saturday 30th November and Sunday 1st December.

There will be an entry fee of £15 payable at the venue on the day. There will be no cash prize but there will be a trophy, books and other goodies. While in principle we are happy to accept entries on the day, it would be best if you could email David Faldon so we can make sure we have enough shogi boards and clocks.

Games will be played with time limits of 30 minutes per player, with 40 seconds byoyomi. There will be three rounds on Saturday and three on Sunday. All players  will play in each round. The first game will begin at 1100 on Saturday 30th, and we expect to finish before 1800. On Sunday we will start at 1000. Games will be graded by FESA (the Federation of European Shogi Associations).

There will be playoffs if necessary to determine the tournament winner, and if there is time we will hold a blitz tournament with 8 minutes time limits.

We may run a beginners session before the tournament starts (if there are any beginners). Hybrid sets will be available for complete beginners, diagramatically showing the moves of each piece. If you do not wish to play a game using one of these sets then please let David Faldon know on the day.

Lunch can be provided at the venue if enough players register for this in advance. Please let David know if you are interested in this, or if you have any other questions.

The venue is the Henderson Court Day Centre, 102 Fitzjohn's Avenue, London NW3 6NS.

The nearest tube station is Hampstead (a few stops north of Euston on the Northern line).
A map and comprehensive transport details are available here. The Northern Line will be closed between Camden Town and Edgware on Sunday 1st December (until 0830 southbound, 0900 northbound), but it should still be straightforward to get to the venue with plenty of time to spare.
